Showered with blessings: Q & A

May 5th, 2013

Q:  How are you doing since the birth?

A:  In the mercy of God, this feels like one of the fastest and easiest recoveries I’ve ever had.  But because I’m planning to travel with Joe to pick up Tommy in just a few weeks, and life after that will be very full, I am taking the need to rest and heal very seriously.  We know many of you prayed that our baby would turn head down; thank you.  We are so grateful that I did not need a C-section.

We’re finished with academics for the year and have begun our three-month summer break.  The weather has been inviting the children outdoors.  We’ve had little company, and several friends have brought meals to help.  My midwife comes to our home to do the post-partum checks of mother and baby, so I’ve not needed to go out.  I’m reading my way through books I’ve been saving up for these quiet weeks.

We’re seeing the results of the hard work we put into simplifying, streamlining and organizing.  Right now, there is a refreshing absence of pressure on our family, and a peaceful leisureliness in its place.

Q:  What do Verity and Katie think of the baby?

A:  After taking a day to get used to the idea, Verity is now discovering the delights of having a real baby to hold and love.

“Pat, pat, Baby Ben,” croons Verity.

…and gives him the tiniest, tenderest baby kiss.

Understanding that Katie is cognitively around the age of 8 or 9 months old, it makes sense that the new baby hasn’t made any impression on her yet.

But she’s making some progress I want to tell you about in her very own post, one of these days.  With lots of photos I’ve saved up!

Here’s how I learned that she can now get into the bathtub by herself and pull down all the toys she can reach!  She heard the water running and that’s all the motivation she needed!

“Haha!  Now I’m all set!” her face clearly says!

Q:  What is the word on Tommy?  Do you know an approximate travel date?

A:  Having Benjamin here makes me more eager than ever to have our whole family together!

Our in-country agency is on vacation until Monday, and then we expect to receive travel dates for early June to bring Tommy home!

The blessing of the Lord makes one rich,
And He adds no sorrow with it.

Blessed.

Rich.

No sorrow.

P. S.  If you haven’t done so already, may I urge you to read this post and respond by helping the Huizinga family with their last chunk of Penny’s adoption expenses?  As of right now, they lack only $1960–so close!  If you have already given, bless you!

Also, I’ve added a couple more families to the A Little Help for our Friends II post–you may want to check it out again and look for the new faces!

***Wednesday night UPDATE:  Thank you, friends!  Only $1363 left to go!!  This is so doable!!!

What wonderful photos – each telling so much about those in them! Lovely to see Verity’s nurturing, loving nature, and the adventurousness of Katie.  I just wish there was an accompanying picture of your face when you found her in the bath, fully clothed!

I love to see such wonderful pictures of your family.  Congratulations on Ben’s safe arrival, he’s definitely a cutie!  What made me gladdest of heart in this post is seeing Katie playing in the tub looking so happy.  It reminded me of a post you made shortly after she came home with you about how she didn’t like to work to sit up.  I’m sure she must bring tears of joy to your eyes regularly to get to see the wonderful work the Lord is doing in her life and yours!

Verity is such a good big sister! She looks like she takes the role very seriously. And Benjamin looks like mini-Joe. Wow.

I love the pictures of Verity holding Ben :)
Are you taking Ben with you since you are breastfeeding, when you go to pick up Tommy?

Love! And love to you all!

Susanna!!!  Congratulations!  Little Benjamin is so beautiful!  And yes, I realize I’m overusing exclamation points.  I meant to come by and say something earlier, I read your last post through my email, but I was at work and it’s impossible to convince my phone to cooperate with wordpress.  Verity is so precious with her baby brother!  And LOLing at Katie fully clothed in the bath tub… my brother did that once when we were little… but it was MY bath and he was already in his pajamas for the night… haha.  I can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait to hear the news that it’s almost time to go get Tommy!  Blessings to all of you, you have such a beautiful family.
