Tax deductible giving through Lifesong for Orphans!

December 15th, 2012

[NOTE:  The following is the required adoption fundraising letter we were asked by Lifesong for Orphans to send out.  The information you need to make a tax-deductible donation is partway down this page.]

Dear Family and Friends,

Did you know it is estimated that less than 10% of all orphan children are adopted into evangelical Christian families? According to current estimates, if only 10% more Christians in America would adopt, it would be equivalent to providing homes for all the orphans in Eastern Europe (1.5 million), Latin America (400,000), and the US foster care system (150,000).

God desires for orphans of all nations to be loved, cared for and adopted into Christian families.  Our family been so clearly directed by God to adopt that we want to obey Him, and we also desire to give Tommy a family that he otherwise would not receive.

We estimate our total cost for adoption fees, document preparation, home study, airfare, travel, attorney fees, etc. to be $23,000.  We know God is faithful and is leading us to trust Him. By God’s grace and your help, we’ve been able to pay the first $13,000+!

It’s hard on our pride to make our needs known to the Body of Christ around us, but we also know it’s Biblical to do so. We appreciate your friendship very much and are thankful for so many of you who have been praying for us and helping us in our adoption of Tommy.

If you would like to be a part of God bringing Tommy into our family, you can send your tax-deductible gift between now and February 7th to the address below. Lifesong for Orphans is a well-respected organization administering the funds on Tommy’s behalf, and will pay adoption expenses out of funds received.  They were wonderful to work with during Katie’s adoption, and their staff prayed for us regularly.

100% of all funds received by Lifesong for Orphans go directly to cover adoption costs. Nothing is taken out for administrative costs.

1. Please make your check payable to: Lifesong for Orphans

2. Please preference how you want the donation to be used by writing “Musser #3367 adoption” in the memo section of your check.

(*Note: In following IRS guidelines, your donation is to Lifesong which retains full discretion and control over its use, but they will honor your preference.)

3. Please mail your check to Lifesong for Orphans:

Attn:  Musser #3367 adoption
PO Box 40/202 N. Ford St.
Gridley, IL 61744

Thank you for investing in the Kingdom through prayer and finances – it is an investment with an eternal return! Please pray that this entire process will glorify God and fulfill His purposes!

In Christ,

Joe, Susanna, Joseph, Daniel, Joshua, Laura, Jane, John Michael, Peter, James, Stephen, Verity, and Katie Musser

P.S.  We have not signed up to use PayPal for the Lifesong donations, to keep it simpler and because PayPal will charge a 1.9-2.9% service fee. The amount actually received by Lifesong for Orphans will be decreased by that amount. This can be avoided by sending a check to Lifesong for Orphans.  However, if we receive requests to sign up for PayPal for tax-deductible donations through Lifesong, we will honor your requests and sign up anyway!

[Letter from Andy Lehman, vice president of Lifesong for Orphans, which we are also required to send out]

December 12, 2012

Dear church, family, and friends of Joe and Susanna Musser,

Lifesong for Orphans ( is a non-profit Christian ministry dedicated to help meet the needs of orphan children around the world, and obey God’s call to “visit the fatherless…in their affliction” (James 1:27).

The number of children worldwide without families to love and care for them is astounding… there are over 143 million orphans worldwide!

God tells us in His word He has heard the cry of the orphaned and abandoned children (Psalm 10:17, 18) and He has made a way for them to be cared for – through adoption. As believers, He adopted us
into His family through Jesus Christ, and did not leave us as spiritual orphans!

We believe adoption at its core is evangelism–a vital part of the Great Commission is bringing the mission field home. God desires orphans from all nations to be adopted into Christ-honoring families so they may ultimately be adopted into His eternal family through Jesus Christ. God calls us to fulfill James 1:27, “visit the fatherless…” but not all are called to adopt. Some are called to pray, some to give financially, some to go on mission trips, and some to adopt.

Joe and Susanna have sensed God’s call . . . and have joyfully stepped out in faith and obedience to adopt Tommy from Eastern Europe. As you may already know, adoption can cost $25,000 or more and
prevents many godly families from adopting.  Lifesong believes God has raised up the Musser family “for such a time as this…” We invite you to support them financially for this adoption. Funds donated to Lifesong for Orphans between now and February 7, 2013, will be given to help cover adoption expenses for this child.

As a 501(c)3 organization, your gift is tax deductible.

*100% of all funds raised will go directly to cover adoption costs–nothing will be taken out for Lifesong for Orphans administrative costs.

Will you invest financially in the life of this precious child? . . . It will be an investment with eternal return.

God bless you for laying your treasures up in Heaven,

Andy Lehman
Vice President

P.S. I trust God will do great and mighty things through this, and all for His glory!

He has so much life in his smile, doesn’t he? Seeing his smile in that place reminds me of looking into a cesspool and seeing a diamond sparkling back. Amazing! I can’t wait to scoop him into my arms…very, very gently…

  4. Amy says:

Oh Susanna, I cannot wait to see the photos of you holding both of your sweet boys in your arms :)

  5. Kim says:

I saw the Baba video on Youtube and he was in it! Laughing and giggling … I think he has a bit of a stinker in him :)  And I mean that in all love because I have a few “stinkers” (read: mischievous boys) in my house!

  6. Susanna says:

Amy, my pregnant hormonal state doesn’t let me go there or I would get too emotional to keep functioning!
