Are you willing?

March 30th, 2012

There are two days left in this month.

That means there are two days left in the Mulligan Stew fundraiser.

Oh friends, I’ve been sitting here for too many hours, wracking my tired brain, searching for the perfect words.  I’ve written and deleted countless times.

How can words communicate to those who have never been there, who haven’t seen for themselves?

All the words are coming out flat…two-dimensional.

I want with all my heart to help you understand how crucial this fundraiser is for the lives of many children, including two special little girls on Reece’s Rainbow.

These little girls have been waiting so long for their families that if they are not adopted by mid-summer, they will age out.  They will run out of time.  If this happens, they will never have their own family to love them.

One little girl is named Laurel; she has arthrogryposis.

The other little girl is named Harmony; she has Down syndrome.

More than anything else, they need families.

We can’t give them families, but we can make their grant funds grow to encourage families to consider adopting them.

And we can help to spread the word in wider and wider circles.

A donor has offered to put $500 into each girl’s Reece’s Rainbow account fund…

…all eight families in the Mulligan Stew giveaway who are adopting from Pleven have at least $2000 in their adoption funds by tomorrow night!  Almost $6000 is still lacking!

Our family is in the middle of another stretching time.  All three of our older boys are working part time, two of them temporarily.  It is hard right now to keep up with the basics, let alone little extras like sleep or food for Mama.  Mama is in the trenches.  She is bone-weary and the words just aren’t coming.

I am praying that God will work HIS WILL through human weakness for the sake of these two precious little girls.  It is heartbreaking to picture them in an adult mental institution.

Friends, even if you have already done so, are you willing to go to the Micah Six Eight blog, see what God has been doing there for some special children, and give until it hurts?  For His sake, and their sakes?  He is winning!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Important P.S.  Don’t forget to leave a comment on the Micah Six Eight blog or email Julia Nalle at, letting her know how you participated in this fundraiser, if you wish to be entered in the giveaway!

We do not have pay pal.  Is there a way to send checks or charge to credit cards for this sort of thing?

  2. Susanna says:

I’m so sorry, Jill, but Paypal is really what makes online giving work smoothly. I’m told it’s not hard to set up a Paypal account, though, so I truly hope that is an option for you! Thank you so much for wanting to give!

  3. Becky K. says:

I’ve written a brief post…directing people here and then on to the Micah 6:8 blog.  I can’t say it any better than the two of you have.  Blessings……One of my dear blog readers has already joined me in contributing.  Praying!!!!!

  4. Karla says:

I don’t understand….do you donate money on the Reese’s Rainbow page or the Micah 6:8 page or on the Mulligan Stew page?  I was wanting to make a donation but was getting confused trying to click thru all of these links quickly.  If anyone can explain exactly where to go to donate I will check back again later this afternoon to make a donation.  Thanks.

  5. Kim says:

You can set up a PayPal account for free and you can use your charge card on there.

  6. Susanna says:

Karla, thank you so much for asking! If you are wondering, others may be as well!

You choose which child or family you want to donate to, and then click on their name. That will take you to the place where you can donate directly to the one you choose. In most cases, that is a Reece’s Rainbow page.

For instance, if you click on the name Keith, the link will take you to the Unroe family’s page on the Reece’s Rainbow site, and there you will find the button to donate directly to the Unroe family’s adoption fund. I chose this example purposely because they’re the last of the eight Pleven families who need to reach $2000 in this giveaway, and they have less than $1000 to go! If they reach $2000 by tomorrow night, a generous and anonymous donor will donate $500 to Laurel’s fund and $500 to Harmony’s fund. :)

No money is going through the Micah Six Eight site at all; we donate directly to the individual families or children. Most of the families and children have a Reece’s Rainbow page, but a few, like the Carpenter family, do not have a Reece’s Rainbow account, and will have a different tax-deductible donation button set up for you to use.

Thank you so much for asking for more information instead of giving up and going away quietly when you didn’t understand. Thank you for wanting to help!

  7. Susanna says:

Becky, this brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much, friend.

  8. Deanna says:

I donated to the Carpenter’s via the paypal on their blog. I hope that was right, I was a little confused. May all the families be blessed!

  9. Susanna says:

Bless you, Deanna! That was perfectly right! Thank you!

  10. Jennifer says:

They will ALL BE BLESSED! Every family has met their goal – now is the time to pour the blessings on the remaining families as the giveaway winds down….it is amazing what God has done here!

  11. kathy says:

Would like to bless you with some groceries next Thursday afternoon if it would be ok with you. JUst email me back with some favorites and things you need in your pantry.

  12. MamaV says:

A friend mentioned your blog to me, and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Verity and Katie’s stories! I just had my first 3 months ago, and I have a bag full of infant formula that the hospital gave me when they were afraid that his jaundice wouldn’t resolve with exclusive breastfeeding. It did, and we aren’t planning on using the formula. Would it be of any use to you, or to any families that you know? I hate to see it go to waste, but by the grace of God we are in a situation where we won’t likely use it.
    Bless you!

  13. Laura says:

Thank you for letting your readers know about the Mulligan Stew Giveaway fundraiser. Thanks also for writing about it again today.  I had intended to participate already but hadn’t actually done so yet, and your words today were just what I needed to nudge me to take the time to do it!  I’m glad I didn’t miss the joy of being a part of it!

This is my first time to comment here (I just found your blog last month) so I also want to share that your blog is a huge blessing to me!

  14. Karla says:

Susanna – Thank you for the explination!  Also just to add, I don’t have a paypal account, but didn’t need one either.  You don’t need one to make a donation, you can just use a debit or credit card.  Hope the donation helps the Unroe family meet their goal.  Blessings to all.  Our family is continuing to pray for these little ones daily.  We know first hand that God LOVES adoption and will work in these families lives in amazing ways!!

  15. Mandy says:

So happy to hear that every family met their goal!

  16. Sally says:

It won’t help with the Mulligan Stew give-away, but you can mail checks directly to Reece’s Rainbow (the address is on their website) and for large donations this is actually preferable because Paypal takes a percentage when you donate through them.

  17. Susanna says:

Oh that’s so good to know, Karla, thank you!

  18. Susanna says:

Sally, thank you for letting me know!

  19. Michelle says:

Thank you for posting again. I had meant to donate but I had forgotten to do it! I read your post and donated right away. Your words were perfect. I’m touched to see how it all came together. Huge praises!!!

  20. Rosemary says:

As a member of the Mulligan Stew “crew,” I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to each of you who has donated. I can attest to Julia’s exhaustion — she is gratefully and humbly overwhelmed by the bookkeeping she has had to manage in the past several days. But there is one more day of the giveaway (today!), and these children are, for the most part, not yet fully funded, so I ask that each of you prayerfully consider yet another donation. The big push for today, though, is finding families for both Laurel and Harmony. I believe if you share Julia Arnold Nalle’s blog on facebook or Twitter, you will receive TWO entries in the giveaway. I also believe that if you leave a comment for Julia that you have sent a check, and the amount, it can be included in the contest. But please be sure to leave a comment!

You, as God’s children, are the salt of the earth. Every Mulligan Stew needs a LOT of salt!! Thank you again, and may God multiply every donation received and bless each donor indescribably!

  21. I pm’d you on momys…   :)
