Our little dumpling has been unwell off and on over the past week. We cancelled therapy sessions, as we could tell that very little would be accomplished! Her cough has grown deeper and worse. Then throughout the day today, she grew increasingly fussy and sleepy. She refused all but little sips of milk all evening. Later tonight, she developed a fever of 102, and her breathing became more labored.
(Anyone notice that it is a Friday night after hours? Yup. Murphy’s Law of parenting.)
Taking everything into consideration, including the fact that babies with Down syndrome can be very sick without showing many signs, we called the Clinic’s answering service. Dr. Strauss called us back as he was leaving the hospital, and offered several options.
Joe met him at the Clinic to pick up some medications, plus I’m to wake her twice tonight to offer her fluids. If she doesn’t show improvement by morning, we’ll need to take her in to the hospital.
We’re asking God to heal our baby with no need for the hospital, and thanking Him for Dr. Strauss!
Just this morning, she was feeling well enough for Mama to play baby doll. She delighted our hearts with her deliciousness.
…she is delighting my mama heart…
…by nursing to sleep.
[Can you believe I ever grieved about this child?]
