Q & A: Adoption details I

February 17th, 2011

Q:  So what’s your next step?

A:  As soon as Joe finished the upstairs bathroom, he walked downstairs and began work on that bathroom!

Here’s what our home study social worker saw the day she came to visit:

Looks okay so far…

Oops…looks like trouble…

…and still more trouble.  This started imperceptibly and has been growing steadily over the past year.

Water from condensation had been leaking from the area between the tub and the surround, which in turn caused rot.  (I was relieved to learn that the problem was not caused by little boys splashing in the tub!)

We’re replacing the flooring, the underlayment, and some of the drywall.  We’re putting down the same flooring we laid upstairs so that we can use what was left from that carton.

We’re replacing the toilet with one that uses far less water, which should make our drain field happier.

We’re replacing the vent with one that actually works to keep water from running down the walls when the shower is used!  We’re replacing the corroded radiator cover.  We can repaint using paint we already have.  And the Zimmermans gave us a new vanity!

Drywalling is done.  Flooring and peeling wallpaper border are gone.  Ceiling is painted.  Joe hopes to finish the flooring by this weekend.

Where the old vanity once stood…

This is one hard-workin’ Daddy…

To be continued…

And Shari, you know I am appreciating it all the more because of living for so long with what many people would consider “unacceptable.” I STILL admire our 6 year old kitchen floor, after living with the hideous and obviously damaged old one for years. I love waiting for God to provide–what He gives us is always SO much better than what we could manage to get for ourselves. :D
