Our Adoption Finances

February 1st, 2011

“…we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man.”

An explanation of a few of our general beliefs about money can be found here.

Still have questions?  If you can’t find the answers here, chances are they cannot be answered on the blog, due to the nature of international adoption.  However, we welcome questions from you if you will identify yourself, so that we can speak freely with you.  If we are going to trust you with sensitive financial information, we need to be assured that you are a trustworthy individual. Please email them to our board of accountability:

Here at the end of the adoption, we have experienced additional costs  partially due to expediting paperwork (additional apostille-ing and FedEx-ing)  in consideration of Katerina’s medical condition.  We also do not know how much our airfare will cost, but expect it to be somewhat higher than previous estimates.  We do know that God will see to it that all the money we need will be in place when we need it.  Thank you, friends, for the generosity you have shown!

~~~Praise Jehovah our Provider!!!~~~
(Lifesong fundraising letter with guidelines for giving.)
Dear family and friends of Joe and Susanna Musser,
Lifesong for Orphans is a non-profit Christian ministry dedicated to help meet the needs of orphan children around the world, and obey God’s call to “visit the fatherless…in their affliction.”  (James 1:27)
The number of children worldwide without families to love and care for them is astounding…there are over 143 million orphans worldwide!
God tells us in His word He has heard the cry of the orphaned and abandoned children (Psalm 10:17, 18) and He has made a way for them to be cared for – through adoption.  As believers, He adopted us into His family through Jesus Christ, and did not leave us as spiritual orphans!
Joe and Susanna believe adoption at its core is evangelism – a vital part of the Great Commission is bringing the mission field home.  God desires orphans from all nations to be adopted into Christ-honoring families so they may ultimately be adopted into His eternal family through Jesus Christ.  God calls us to fulfill James 1:27, “visit the fatherless…” but not all are called to adopt. Some are called to pray, some to give financially, some to go on mission trips, and some to adopt.
Joe and Susanna have sensed God’s call…and have joyfully stepped out in faith and obedience to adopt Katerina Hope from an Eastern European country.  As you may already know, adoption can cost around $28,000 and prevents many godly families from adopting.
Lifesong believes God has raised up the Musser family “for such a time as this…”  and we have committed an Adoption Matching Grant of $4,000 to help raise the funds necessary to complete the adoption of this child.
This means Lifesong for Orphans will match “dollar-for-dollar” everything the Mussers raise through Lifesong from their church, family, and friends between now and May 4, 2011, up to $4,000. We invite you to support them financially to make this adoption possible.
As a 501(c)3 organization, your gift is tax-deductible.
*100% of all funds raised will go directly to cover adoption costs – nothing will be taken out for Lifesong for Orphans administrative costs.
You can donate by going to the donation page on our website.
Or simply make checks payable: Lifesong for Orphans, and write “Musser #1916 adoption” in the memo line.
And mail to: Lifesong for Orphans
PO Box 40 / 202 N. Ford St
Gridley, IL  61744
In following IRS guidelines, your donation is to the named non-profit organization.  This organization retains full discretion over its use, but intends to honor the donor’s suggested use.
Will you invest financially in the life of this little girl?  It will be an investment with eternal return.
God bless you for laying your treasures up in Heaven,
Andy Lehman
Vice President
P.S.  I trust God will do mighty things through this, and all for His glory!
    Hey Susanna,
    I am Kim’s daughter Linsey. My husband Joel has been to your house to help with your basement, I grew up with your niece Courtney Joshua and I am working on hopefully raising some funds for your family :) – I have loved reading your updates and hearing your Godly heart!!! I am guessing that the little ones name is still not to be connected with you guys but I just wanted to check on that.
    Thanks,
    Linsey
  4. Linsey Smoker says:
    I meant bathroom not basement :) – I was just sweeping water out of ours so that is probably why I had it in my head.
  5. Susanna says:
    Oh Linsey, hello! I am embarrassed to say that your husband DID see our basement, haha! I came on here to write a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT that will answer your question!
  6. Corbi Shurtleff says:
    Susanna, I would love to know more about little Katerina.  I am planning on selling a dinig room table on Craigs list.  I will pledge the money to your adoption.  I wish I could do more!
    Hi Susanna,
    I just hung up with you. I called to wish Verity a Happy 1st birthday tomorrow and find out how long she received breastmilk.  I listened to your amazing story of the past year and learned of your pending adoption!  I’ve posted your numbers and blog website on the board in the lactation office to provide future families who may be faced with Down’s Syndrome challenges in regards to breastfeeding.
    Your story is truly a miracle. Please contact me with anything I can help you with !
    Lisa Brown, RN, IBCLC
