Today is the 22nd.

November 22nd, 2010

I read this last night on another mother’s blog.  She and her husband have begun the process of adopting a little girl named Melanie.

“Melanie lives in an orphanage in Eastern Europe. Melanie was born with Down Syndrome and has been deemed as imperfect and placed in an orphanage to be hidden away from society. Most children born with Down Syndrome in Eastern Europe are killed at birth and if not, they are thrown away in orphanages. “IF” they are lucky, they will stay there in the orphanage with the hope and prayer that a loving forever family will adopt them…but this does not happen to most. Most live their days in an orphanage until they turn 4. At that time they are placed in mental institutions where 85% die within the first year….alone…they die never having a mommy or daddy to hold and love them.”

This is the day of the meeting in a certain Eastern European country between a government official who is in charge of adoptions in that country, and two Christians who live there and work on behalf of orphans with special needs.

Since that country is so many hours ahead of us, it is the end of the work day there and I am assuming that their meeting has already taken place.  Now the official will have to take the truth that she heard from those two Christians, and make a decision.

Who will she listen to?  Those who have such hard hearts that they are working to stop the neediest of children from being adopted?  Knowing that this would essentially be a death sentence against them?  That is just plain evil; there is no fear of God before their eyes.

We pray that God will turn the heart of that official toward what is right.

We pray~

Arise, O LORD!  O God, lift up Your hand!  Do not forget the humble.

Why do the wicked renounce God?  He has said in his heart, ‘You will not require an account.’

But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand.  The helpless commits himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless.

Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness until You find none.

The LORD is King forever and ever; the nations perish from His land.

LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart;

You will cause Your ear to hear, to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of earth may oppress no more.”
