It’s four o’clock…

November 5th, 2010

…and Verity has gotten maybe two ounces, between about an ounce by bottle (unsuccessfully trying the bait-and-switch), and possibly an ounce by SNS, or supplemental nursing system.  A LOT leaked out using the SNS and shield, though, and I had to keep stopping to re-position everything.  She didn’t actually suck more than two or three times, just swallowed what she had to because it went to the back of her throat.

Remember when I said I needed to learn patience?  Ahem.  Guess what I’m praying for today…

I’ve been praying for you ALL day and will continue to do so.  Hang in there.  I know it must be sooo hard to know she’s not eating.  I know you already know this since you have many more children than me, but she will not starve today or even tomorrow….hard to get through though!  And now adding praying for patience for you to my petitions (and for myself today come to think of it!)

Praying!  She’ll get it.  She knows how to suck, she knows how to nurse, you just have to outlast her.  She’s a fighter, she’s just choosing to fight the wrong thing right now.  :(  Lots of prayers.

I have been praying for patience for you!

I remember how I had to have so much patience with Jacob and how it could be so frustrating (at times).  I’m also recalling how I have been potty training Jacob’s sister and the wheels fell off the bus more or less last Saturday and I put diapers back on her.  But, that night she was dry after many, many hours and I told her that it would be a good time to try the potty and she jumped up and ran to the potty (I was absolutely shocked).  I don’t know why, but, I wanted to share this story with you…  I guess sometimes when you hit the bottom and try a different approach, then it works (and she used the potty ALL day today — woo, hoo!)!

Also, I know it was also SNS-related, but, Jacob at first would leak all over the place when he was nursing, I would put a hand towel under him to catch the “run off”.  He did get a better latch and thankfully eventually quit leaking all over.

I’m continuing to pray for patience for you and success for Verity…

Lots of prayers and thank you for the update.  I’ve been thinking of you 2 and how hard this is on you both to be taking another approach at how to live life.  God is good and won’t leave you hanging.  How things look right now is not how they will be in a week from now!
