You shall not be afraid

August 1st, 2010

Every evening, when we let Verity’s nurse know that we are headed to the Ronald McDonald House for the night, she reminds me that I can call during the night to see how the baby is.  So when I am awake, pumping, I do just that.

The first time I called, the nurse who answered put me on hold until Verity’s nurse could get to the phone.  I nodded off while I waited.

Then I woke with a start and looked at the clock.  I had been on hold for ten minutes!  Maybe something went wrong and they didn’t want to tell me!

I calmed my heart and waited a little longer.  Then I looked at my cell phone.  It was disconnected.

I called back over to the PICU and this time, I found out that if no cheesy music plays when I’m put on hold, I’m not really on hold. <smile>

glad everything was alright when you called to check – even though you were disconnected! also – i noticed verity has an ng tube – hopefully verity will recover as well as whitney and be strong enough to take a bottle or nurse about 6-8 weeks after she recovers from her surgery.  whitney nursed right away when she was born and then about 10 days after she was born she went into heart failure to the point that she was too weak to eat and could barely breathe.  we kept working with a bottle to try to keep her mouth muscles going but she had too much blood leaking from her mitral valve and just could not breathe/suck/swallow all at the same time.  she got stronger and stronger with each day after her surgery and by about 8 weeks post op we were able to remove her ng tube and she has taken all food orally ever  since – just wanted to share that with you, hope it helps give hope for you guys :) thinking of you!

  2. I guess even cheesy music can be a good thing sometimes!!  LOL

We put her pretty card on our desktop as a reminder to pray through the day.  Such a pretty little girl! . . . . . . When you get some rest, remember that you are doing a good thing for Verity, too.   God bless real big, Liz

You are constantly in my thoughts, prayers, and my heart.

Are you, by chance, getting any more sleep at the RM House?
