Four days post-surgery

August 3rd, 2010

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first.  Verity failed her pacemaker test again today, with no improvement over the previous days.

Now.  The good part.

Look at that beautiful face with NO BREATHING TUBE!!!  This is the first time I have seen her sweet little personality in a very long while!  I’ve missed her so much!  We had to wait outside the PICU until they had extubated her, then they came out to get us.  They warned us that she was upset and crying, but by the time we got back there, she was peaceful.  We stayed and talked to her until she fell asleep, so that the last thing she remembers is her parents’ faces and voices.

She is fascinated by the little blue doughnut above her face.  She should be in this tent for another day.  She is doing a fantastic job of breathing and her blood gasses are fabulous!  Thank You, Lord!  She got a little breastmilk yesterday, but they won’t be giving her more until tonight, so as not to overwork her system.  But they are working with me to allow me to bring in fresh breastmilk rather than giving her thawed stuff.  It is wonderful to be able to do something for her, even if it is a small something!

Several of Verity’s visitors have mentioned that she looks a lot smaller in person than she does in the pictures.  So here’s a little perspective on the matter~

We were so surprised to see yesterday’s nurse with Verity again today.  But this time, she is being a different person.  As in, the difference between night and day!  We aren’t exactly sure of what all happened there, but we are not complaining!  The neutral party we spoke to yesterday came to apologize to us, but Joe told him that a transformation has taken place.  The man told him that in his experience, that means that the nurse’s day started out well.  If it doesn’t start well, it tends to go downhill from there.  We do desire to reflect Christ to everyone around us, and who knows what God’s intentions are for this nurse?  So…thank you for praying, and please keep it up!

PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!!  She does look spunky and beautiful without that vent tube and yes small compared to her surroundings.  Are they doing weights at all??  That’s very interesting about the nurse, God does have aplan for every aspect and I will pray specifically.  Is Joe able to be with you 24/7?

THANK you for sharing this journey with us.  It is truly amazing to watch God work through you with your precious Verity.  May God continue to give her strength as she recovers.  I ask My Heavenly Father to pour out comfort through His Spirit in the both of you as you are at the hospital.  Blessings!

It is so wonderful to see her little eyes open! I am sure it did your heart good  to see her start to get back to her normal self. We will continue to pray for your little one as well as your entire family, I know the stress from this type of thing can be hard on not only the parents but the other children as well. Hooray!  I bet she feels so much better without the vent!  That is funny about the donut, I can see that being very interesting to a baby.  I am praying daily for Verity, as well as her momma.  Hope to come see  you soon.

Thanks to Joseph for this very nice way to keep informed.  This website is done so elegantly.  It’s very pretty, neat and organized.  Points for Joseph!  At least that’s the impression I have that he created this blog?  …for his mom and Verity!  …How SUPER SWEET is that???  May we ALL raise such considerate children that will rise up and use their gifts and talents to bless their parents.  You’ re doing a terrific job Susanna and Joe raising your blessings!

Verity looks so tiny in that crib!  It reminds me of a time in Poland when they wheeled my little 11 month old Zachariah away down the hall and into an elevator on he way for surgery.  It broke my heart that they didn’t let me at least stay with him a little longer.  I’ll NEVER forget his terrified look on his face as if saying, “Mommy, why are you letting these big people wheel me away on this gigantic bed?”  It’s at such times we need to be comforted that though we are the earthly chosen vessels to love and care for these blessings God is their creator and He stays with them always (even when we can’t).
