Sleep, among other gifts

July 3rd, 2010

If I add it all up, I received a total of eight hours’ sleep yesterday, thank the Lord!  What a wonderful, refreshing rest!  By the afternoon, I could focus my eyes long enough to spend some good time reading my Bible.  Here’s some of what I read, and applied to all our brothers and sisters in Christ who have been pouring out help on us so generously~

“You will be enriched in every way for all your generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.  For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.” Yes!!!

Our children are looking forward to going to our friends’ house again next week, because they have kindly offered to have them come one day a week until we’re past this tough spot.  We are so blessed by their servants’ hearts!

We changed our night feeding plan for Verity to help squeeze a bit more sleep for me out of those quiet hours.  I’ve stopped attempting to wake and nurse her for the 12 AM and 3 AM feedings.  I wasn’t ever successful, anyway.  I just change her, feed her with the syringe and put her back down in her bassinet.  Then I pump, wash the pump parts and go back to sleep.  If I push hard and don’t run into extra problems, I can accomplish that in an hour and ten minutes.

On average, when newborn babies stop losing and start gaining again, they put on about 4-7 ounces in a week.  Verity only lost a few ounces by the time we left the hospital.  Then in four days this week she gained 7 1/2 ounces!  Since her gain will inevitably slow down in the not-too-distant future as her heart begins to struggle (more on that in another post), we are so thankful for every gain she adds now!

“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!”
