Another day

July 19th, 2010

This is Joseph again.  Short update:

The team of cardiologists just came through.  They said that Verity is taking in two thirds or less of what she needs.  They’re going to watch her for another day (at least that we know of) and see if she responds by gaining weight.  She still hasn’t gained anything overall, but she seems stable.

She’s going to work on a bottle for half an hour each feeding time and she’s going to get whatever is left through an NG tube.    They’re sending someone from the NICU to assess her suck and swallow before she gets the NG tube.

Mom sounds quite better over the phone.  She said she slept through a feeding, so one of the nurses fed Verity!  Thank you for all your prayers.

[Susanna wanted to edit this to say that she asked the nurse to wake her, but the nurse felt sorry for her and let her sleep.  The reason she felt so much better was that she got three hours of sleep all in a row for the first time since the baby was born!]

May the Lord keep Susanna, Verity, and all the family in the palm of His hand.  He loves you, each and every one.   Be blessed as you rest in Him.

Thank you for keeping us all updated. If they do have to put a tube in, it isn’t horrible..it might sound drastic or scary, but it is a very simple procedure. We will keep praying!

I’m praying every day for you, Susanna, and Verity, and all your family…
Joseph – can you tell Susanna that sleeping through 1 feeding per day will help her so much that it’s worth it – you will be able to be there for Verity so much better with a chunk of sleep than without it… just tell the nurses that you are going to so there’s no confusion (once Esther missed a feed because the nurse didn’t realize I wasn’t going to wake up to do it….)

Awww, Susanna.  I’m glad you were able to get a bit of sleep.  There is no shame in letting the nurses help you.  I know it is hard to do that.  Hugs!
