Yes, we’re all home again!

June 28th, 2010

Was it really only two days ago we were checking in at the hospital?  Wow, it seems like yesterday was at least three days long, and today was two!  Every minute has been crammed full of something or other!

My dad and his wife popped in to the hospital this evening to say hello–just in time to walk with us to the car!  What a happy surprise to see two of our favorite people, albeit briefly.  They have been a steady and supportive presence during this whole journey.  We love you two very much!!!

We arrived back here at 5:30 PM–great timing, as it was Verity’s mealtime.  Just about the time she was finished her meal and changed, all her brothers and sisters came home to see her!  I did have enough time to figure out that *someone* had cleaned our upstairs bathroom and taken care of our laundry.  (The children told on you, my friend!  Thank you for being so willing to come stay with the children Friday night and for serving us once again!)

The four little boys smiled on Verity and kissed her before running off to play.  I think Stephen was just happy to have his mama again!

Jane ran to wash her hands before I even reminded everyone, and got the first turn to hold her baby sister.  She was immediately smitten and all evening she kept coming back to gaze at her and breathe in her sweetness and exclaim over how tiny and cute she is.

Laura took one look at her and exclaimed, “Oh, she really does have fat cheeks!  I thought the picture was stretched out!”  I’ll have to pull out some of her baby pictures to show her that she had big squishy marshmallow cheeks just like Verity’s!

The big boys each enjoyed holding her, too.  It is one of the best sights in the world to see a young man gently holding his newborn baby sister.

And all the children have lots to tell us about their stay at our friends’ house!  They keep saying how much they felt at home, and how much fun they had, and how much better it was than they had expected it to be!

We got to visit with our friends, too, before they headed back home with their own eight children.  Thank you, again, dear friends, for ministering to our family in this way, and for making us feel that you enjoyed it!

The last to visit tonight were Joe’s mom and dad from next door!  Home from their bus trip and ready to meet their new grand-daughter!

Now you know this was a night of celebration for our family, because after our company had come and gone, Joe ordered pizza to be delivered, for the very first time since we moved to this house in 2000.

:-)

So we’re all here, together again.  And we can see that all those parents were right.  When we look at her, we don’t see Down syndrome.  We see our own baby girl and we love her.  Thank you, God, for giving us a new little girl to love!

I’m so glad (and surprised) that you’re all home already! What perfect medicine it must be for all of you to just be together again in your own home. I know how 1 day can feel like 3! LOL I pray that life will slow down for you now so that you can just enjoy your precious baby girl – and take lots of pics for those of us out here! ; )
